Lately the item song or now termed as dance number by Rasha Thadani in her debut movie Azaad has been getting criticism as why would she – having well established top Bollywood star as her parent – would need to do an item song.
Before this Alia, Janhvi, Ananya, Sara and even Shraddha Kapoor didn’t do an item song in their first film to garner more publicity or make more impact as a debutant, now Rasha being only 19 is seen in a dance number and netizens have biased opinions on it – with some praising the young actress expressions and dance skills while others pointing out that she is too young to do such dance numbers.
However, there have been a few nepo-stars who didn’t shy away from doing an item song for various reasons.

Twinkle Khanna did a dance number in her own movie Mela which only succeeded in recovery the production cost of the film with mixed reviews.
Karishma Kapoor, who comes from the legendary Kapoor family of Bollywood, did all the hard work to become the top leading lady of 90s and didn’t even say no to doing an item song like Sexy Sexy from Khuddar. Karishma Kapoor proved that while being a star-kid you might get opportunities easily but directors would make you work hard on your acting and dancing skills rather than catering to your star-kid status.
Kareena Kapoor did an item song during the downfall of her career. After Bodyguard in 2011, she didn’t do much significant work until 2016’s Udta Punjab. During this period only her Fevicol item song stands out.
